King Charles Visits Grenadier Guards at Aldershot Ahead of Trooping the Colour

King Charles visited the Grenadier Guards at Lille Barracks in Aldershot on Friday evening. He met members of the King's Company in his role as Colonel-in-Chief and spoke to the soldiers ahead of Saturday's Trooping the Colour ceremony. " Three guardsmen were promoted to Lance Corporal during the visit, after which the King delivered a spontaneous address.

"I know just how much effort goes into the parade you do tomorrow," he said. He added that he had heard the sound of drums from Buckingham Palace since Easter, noting the regiment's preparations. The King also referenced the regiment's 370-year history and the King's Company's tradition of bearing the sovereign's coffin.

"I know you'll be there when I finally shuffle off this mortal coil," he said. During the visit, King Charles viewed displays of the regiment's ceremonial duties, overseas deployments, and drone warfare training. The King's Colour of the Grenadier Guards, which he presented at Buckingham Palace earlier this week, will be trooped on Saturday.
