Square Enix teased Kingdom Hearts IV on June 9, 2026, during the Nintendo Direct. The announcement confirmed the next mainline entry in the series will launch on the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and PC. The teaser provided no release date.

Kingdom Hearts IV marks the first all-new entry since Kingdom Hearts III, which came out in 2019. A brief teaser trailer accompanied the announcement. The Verge reported the trailer offered limited new information.

Square Enix also announced that the first three Kingdom Hearts titles will release together for the Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. A demo of Kingdom Hearts III is available to play immediately on the Switch 2. The Verge noted that the Kingdom Hearts news arrived alongside other RPG announcements, including Persona 6 and Final Fantasy VII Revelation, during the same Nintendo Direct presentation.
