Kings Waive DeRozan, Making Veteran Guard a Free Agent

The Sacramento Kings waived DeMar DeRozan on Monday, ending his two-year stint with the team and placing the six-time All-Star on the open market. DeRozan had a partial guarantee on his contract for next season. The Kings and the player agreed to the release so he could pursue other opportunities.

$25.7 million salary for next season was guaranteed. The Kings have until the end of August to decide whether to stretch the remaining amount over three seasons, which would move the team below both salary aprons. DeRozan, who turns 37 in August, averaged 18.4 points on nearly 50 percent shooting last season while appearing in all but five games.

The Kings acquired DeRozan in a trade during the summer of 2024 and later added former teammate Zach LaVine at the 2025 trade deadline. DeRozan has made three All-NBA teams and ranks in the top 25 in career scoring. He posted at least 20 points per game in each of his previous 12 seasons.
