KJ Dillard Says Mental Health Struggles and Breakups With Dara Levitan Preceded His BPD Diagnosis and Recovery
The 'Summer House' cast member discussed his anxiety, depression and borderline personality disorder diagnosis on the 'More Life with Carl Radke' podcast.
nypost.comKJ Dillard said his mental health struggles caused Dara Levitan to end their relationship briefly. ” Dillard stated that before the show “nothing was really going on” for him. Modeling work had slowed, and he had taken a break during the summer to focus on filming, leaving him in a “terrible place” financially, he said.
He said the couple struggled because he was “taking out what I was going through on her” without realizing it. Levitan ended the relationship “because she had to” as he hit “rock bottom,” Dillard added. Dillard said he is taking medication for anxiety and depression.
He also said he was later diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, a condition he revealed during the first part of the “Summer House” reunion that aired last week. After a late 2025 hospitalization for self-harm, Dillard went to recovery, and the couple broke up at that time.
He stated that dating in recovery “would have been a mess” because he would have focused on saving the relationship rather than his health.
Dillard said recovery changed his life. ” Last week the pair unfollowed each other on social media. ” A few days later he released a music video for his song “My Lil Thing,” in which Levitan appears front and center.
Dillard said the couple is still together and works to keep outside influence from affecting the relationship. “We do a good job at not letting [the public] tear us apart,” he said.
