The New York Knicks won the 2026 NBA championship eight days after finishing an eighth-place regular-season record. Their title ended a 53-year drought and triggered roster moves across the Eastern Conference.
The Miami Heat added Giannis Antetokounmpo to pair with Bam Adebayo. The Toronto Raptors acquired Kawhi Leonard. The Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. Celtics president Brad Stevens said the deal reflected salary-cap constraints and shifting roster construction rules.
"When I looked at our team and where the league was heading ... the path looked a little more challenging to me with 70% of our cap and such a high percentage our usage tied up in two players," Stevens said.
Detroit officials have stated they will match any offer sheet for restricted free-agent center Jalen Duren. The team signed John Collins and lost forward Tobias Harris to free agency. New York returns 95.7 percent of its playoff scoring production and 87.2 percent of its playoff rebounding from last season's top nine players.
The Knicks replaced Mitchell Robinson with Andre Drummond in free agency.
