Knicks Draft Pick Kayil Says He Wants to Stay in NBA

Jack Kayil, the Knicks' 39th overall draft pick from Germany, said Saturday he wants to remain in the NBA rather than return overseas. The 20-year-old point guard made the statement after his summer league debut in a 70-49 loss. Kayil finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes.

"My goal is to play in the NBA," Kayil said. " Kayil addressed reports of a contract dispute with his former team in Berlin but declined to provide details. "There were things going on that I don't want to get into," he said.

Kayil showed playmaking ability but noted the Knicks' offense struggled overall. He and fellow rookie Tyler Nickel were the only offensive contributors in the game. If he remains with the Knicks, Kayil is a candidate for a two-way contract and possible G-League development.

Summer league coach TJ Saint said he liked Kayil's ability to get into the paint after reviewing film following the draft. "It's not my decision, so I'm just trying to show myself in the best way," Kayil said.
