New York Knicks fans gathered outside Madison Square Garden on Friday night to watch Game 2 of the NBA Finals, then clashed with police after the team secured a 105-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. More than 6,000 people attended the outdoor watch party.

After the final buzzer, some fans scaled light poles, jumped on food carts and subway entrances, and sold counterfeit merchandise, according to police.

A female police officer required medical attention after being punched in the face by an individual who jumped over a barrier. Police Benevolent Association President Pat Hendry said the officer was "just doing her job, trying to keep everyone safe in the pandemonium." Twenty-six people were arrested. Seventeen of those arrested face criminal charges, the New York Daily News reported.

The Knicks opened a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday in New York. The Knicks have not won an NBA title since the 1972-73 season. Eight people were arrested after a similar watch party following Game 1 on Wednesday.
