The Knicks agreed to terms with the veteran center on Friday. The signing follows Mitchell Robinson's three-year deal with the Boston Celtics.
winnipegfreepress.comThe New York Knicks agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with center Andre Drummond on Friday. The move replaces Mitchell Robinson, who reached a three-year, $47.4 million deal with the Boston Celtics. Knicks chairman James Dolan had stated he would not allow the team to enter the punitive luxury tax second apron.
Drummond, a two-time All-Star, will back up Karl-Anthony Towns. Drummond led the NBA in offensive rebounds per game for seven straight seasons with the Detroit Pistons and topped the league in rebounding four times between 2015-16 and 2020. He averaged 6.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 19.2 minutes across 103 games with the Philadelphia 76ers over the past two seasons.
"Philly will always have a special place in my heart," Drummond wrote on social media. "To the Knicks fans, I know what this city expects, and I'm ready to embrace it. " Drummond has averaged 12.1 points and 11.9 rebounds over 14 NBA seasons.
His best season came in 2017-18, when he averaged 15.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. He turns 33 next month and has also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls. Robinson spent eight seasons with the Knicks and contributed offensive rebounding and defense to their 2026 NBA championship team.
