Knicks Sign Andre Drummond to One-Year, $3.9 Million Contract

The New York Knicks agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with center Andre Drummond on July 3. The signing followed Mitchell Robinson's departure to the Boston Celtics on a three-year, $47.4 million deal. Knicks chairman James Dolan had stated the team would not enter the punitive luxury-tax second apron.

Drummond, who turns 33 next month, spent the prior two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers backing up Joel Embiid. In 103 games with the 76ers, Drummond averaged 6.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game. Over 14 NBA seasons he holds career averages of 12.1 points and 11.9 rebounds, with a 25 percent career rebound rate that ranks highest in league history.

Drummond led the NBA in offensive rebounds per game for seven straight seasons with the Detroit Pistons and topped the league in rebounding four times between 2015 and 2020. He has appeared in 967 games and recorded 1,197 career blocks, eighth among active players. "Philly will always have a special place in my heart," Drummond wrote on social media.

He added in a second post addressed to Knicks fans: "I know what this city expects, and I'm ready to embrace it. " Robinson played eight seasons with the Knicks and contributed to their 2026 NBA championship. Drummond will back up Karl-Anthony Towns.
