The agreement ends proceedings that began last year when Krafton removed cofounders Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire along with CEO Ted Gill ahead of a potential $250 million bonus tied to financial targets. The Verge reported that a judge reinstated Gill as CEO in March.
Subnautica 2 launched in early access in May and sold four million copies within five days. Details of the settlement remain undisclosed. Krafton stated that the parties reached a mutual settlement and agreed to dismiss all pending legal proceedings.
Bonuses will go to all current Unknown Worlds staff rather than only those employed at the time of the 2021 acquisition, paid in three yearly installments, Bloomberg reported. Gill is leaving the studio. “We mutually agreed to part ways,” Gill told Bloomberg.
