Kyle Lowry signed a one-day contract with the Toronto Raptors and announced his retirement on Tuesday after 20 NBA seasons. The 40-year-old Philadelphia native played nine of those seasons with the Raptors, earned six All-Star selections during that span, and helped the team win the 2019 NBA championship.
He spent the 2025-26 season with the 76ers, appearing in 14 games before formally ending his career in Toronto. Lowry posted a video on social media confirming the retirement and thanking family, teammates, coaches, opponents, staff, media, and fans.
The announcement date of July 7 referenced the No. 7 jersey he wore in Toronto.
Career highlights Lowry was selected 24th overall in the 2006 NBA draft.
He also played for three other franchises during his career. He averaged 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists across 1,187 regular-season games and made 2,209 three-pointers, ranking 14th in NBA history. Lowry reached the playoffs in 12 seasons and averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in postseason play.
He won an Olympic gold medal with the United States in 2016 and was named to the All-NBA team in 2015-16. Lowry was announced last year as an analyst for Prime Video.
