Kyle Schwarber and Munetaka Murakami named to Home Run Derby field

Kyle Schwarber and Munetaka Murakami were named Friday as participants in the Home Run Derby, completing the eight-player field for the contest scheduled Monday night in Philadelphia. The 33-year-old Schwarber leads the majors with 32 home runs this season. He had been expected to take part on his home field at Citizens Bank Park.

Murakami's return and selection Munetaka Murakami had missed more than a month with a strained right hamstring. The White Sox announced his participation when he returned to action Friday night. Murakami, who also was named Friday as an All-Star injury replacement, has 20 home runs this season. He will join Shohei Ohtani as the only Japanese-born players to appear in the derby.

Schwarber's history Schwarber will be joined by teammate Bryce Harper. The remaining participants are Boston's Willson Contreras, Kansas City's Jac Caglianone, Tampa Bay's Junior Caminero, St. Louis' Jordan Walker and the New York Yankees' Ben Rice.

Schwarber, a four-time All-Star, has hit 219 home runs since 2022, second only to Aaron Judge over that span. This marks his third appearance in the derby. He reached the finals in 2018 before losing to Harper and participated again in 2022.
