A Labor member of parliament disclosed acceptance of two tickets to the Midwinter Ball from Sportsbet on the Parliamentary Register of Interests. The member and spouse attended the event in Canberra as guests of the company. The disclosure was made after initial media coverage of the attendance.
Other members of parliament also filed disclosures listing their hosts for the same event. One member reported attending as a guest of a television industry lobby group. Additional disclosures listed hosts including a consulting firm, a television network, and several news organizations.
A separate item noted an ABC chairman was observed using public transport in Sydney while carrying documents. The chairman declined to comment on the sighting.
