A Labour MP received a damehood in the King's Birthday Honours list for her work as chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party and her earlier roles in the party. Jessica Morden, who has represented Newport East since 2005, said the recognition acknowledged 35 years of work in the Labour Party, much of it behind the scenes.
Other recipients Two former Conservative MPs received knighthoods.
One served as justice secretary and later led an independent sentencing review that recommended changes to short prison sentences and greater use of community sentences. A former Labour minister who served as an MP from 1987 to 2010 and later published political diaries was also knighted.
