Labour Urges Nigel Farage to Confirm Reporting of Alleged Hack Linked to £5 Million Donation
Labour Party chairwoman Anna Turley wrote to Nigel Farage asking him to confirm whether he reported an alleged Russian-linked cyber-attack to police or the NCSC. Farage received £5 million from Thailand-based crypto-entrepreneur Christopher Harborne in 2024.
The IndependentLabour Party chairwoman Anna Turley wrote to Nigel Farage asking him to confirm whether he reported an alleged Russian-linked cyber-attack to police or the National Cyber Security Centre. She said the Labour Party would make its own report within 24 hours if he did not respond.
The letter followed reports that forensic analysis of Farage’s phone indicated hostile state actors linked to Moscow had used spear-phishing tactics to compromise his phone, email and bank accounts. Farage told the Mail on Sunday the actions were “deeply concerning” and highlighted a threat to British security.
Farage received £5 million from Thailand-based crypto-entrepreneur Christopher Harborne in 2024 before standing in the general election. He has said the funds were for non-political purposes including safety and security, and later described them as a reward for campaigning for Brexit.
A Reform UK spokesperson said the matter had been reported to the relevant authorities and that further comment would be inappropriate while investigations continued. Former NCSC boss Professor Ciaran Martin said Farage’s analysis was “without any merit” and that no evidence had been produced to support claims of Russian intervention.
Turley stated that if suspicions were correct the incident would constitute a serious cybercrime with potential implications for national security and public confidence in the democratic system.
