Largest Aerial Attack Since 2022 Strikes Moscow, Damaging Refinery and Injuring 17

Moscow suffered its largest aerial attack since 2022 on the morning of Thursday, June 18, 2026. Black smoke rose from the Gazprom Neft oil refinery in the southeastern suburbs. Massive black plumes billowed from the refinery in the Kapotnia district, 15 kilometers from the Kremlin.

Huge flames were visible in a factory within the Kapotnia refinery complex. Black streaks of oil rain appeared along neighborhood streets near the refinery. A fire also occurred at a shopping center in Moscow during the attack.

Drones and their debris caused damage in around 10 locations in Moscow and its outskirts, including residential buildings. At least 17 people, including two children, were injured in the wider Moscow region, according to Moscow regional governor Andrey Vorobyov. Tatiana, a Muscovite mother in her 50s, followed the overnight attack that occurred on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

She stated: "Russia is burning, Moscow is burning. " She added that war had entered the daily lives of Muscovites, just as it has in other regions targeted by Kyiv in recent weeks. Tatiana, who has long opposed Vladimir Putin's regime and his war in Ukraine since February 2022, said the attacks and damage could undermine the Kremlin's reassurances and the widespread apathy among Russians.
