The membership-based warehouse retailer generated $96 billion in revenue for the fiscal year ending January 31, 2026, and runs 601 locations across the United States. S. and held earlier positions in Walmart's real estate division and at Sam's Club.
She reports directly to Walmart CEO Doug McMillon and sits on Walmart's executive committee.
Club maintains approximately 4,000 stock-keeping units per store, far fewer than Walmart's more than 100,000. The chain generates revenue through $60 annual membership fees in addition to merchandise sales and contributes 13 percent of Walmart's total $713 billion in sales.
Watkins has continued the practice of limiting product duplication on shelves to reduce customer decision fatigue. She has also overseen the rollout of the Scan & Go mobile checkout system.
Nicholas set targets to open 30 new stores, remodel all existing locations, and double sales, profit, and membership within eight to 10 years. These plans place Sam's Club in direct competition with Costco. Watkins stated she intends to focus on current responsibilities rather than future advancement. Several previous Sam's Club CEOs have later led Walmart or other major retailers.
