themandarin.com.auThe Law Society of Kenya and the Public Service Commission met in Nairobi on 15 July 2026 to discuss pay, recruitment and training for public-sector lawyers. LSK President Charles Kanjama led the delegation that included Vice President Teresia Wavinya and council members Vivian Eyase and Effie Sheila Achieng. PSC Chief Executive Officer Paul Famba took part in the session.
LSK proposed that the society observe PSC interviews for legal posts to strengthen fairness and professional standards. The two bodies also agreed to pursue joint advocacy for non-practising allowances for public-service and in-house lawyers. They further agreed to expand cooperation on the LSK Annual Rule of Law Report and to create specialised continuing professional development, mentorship and capacity-building programmes for government lawyers.
Both organisations expressed support for the Public Service Human Resource Management Bill, 2024. LSK raised concerns about delayed salary payments for interns at the Office of the Attorney General. PSC stated that the issue is already under review and said the affected interns would receive outstanding pay soon.
LSK said it would continue monitoring the payments until they are settled.
