Lawmaker accuses officials of withholding Epstein files
A Republican lawmaker said two senior Justice Department officials violated the law by withholding millions of Epstein-related documents. The comments came during a television interview and referenced an act requiring disclosure.
The HillA Republican lawmaker stated that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel violated disclosure requirements tied to Jeffrey Epstein files. The lawmaker made the remarks during an interview on NBC's Meet the Press. The comments included references to unreleased documents and redactions that the lawmaker said prevented full public access.
U.S. handling of files The lawmaker said the Epstein Files Transparency Act requires release of the records. The same statement noted that millions of files remain unreleased and that some victim statements had not been made public. The lawmaker also said the two officials had effectively perjured themselves by stating that no additional individuals were named in the files.
Overseas developments British police announced investigations into historic child sexual abuse allegations connected to information from the Epstein files. Investigators publicly urged a woman who claims she was trafficked by Epstein to come forward.
