Lawson Tests Multilingual NFC and AR System for Tourists

Lawson began testing a multilingual shopping guide system on March 24 at three Tokyo stores. The locations are Ikebukuro, Ginza, and Shinjuku. The trial continues through the end of this month. The system uses Near Field Communication tags to help foreign tourists understand purchase protocols for certain items.

It also incorporates augmented reality features that allow customers to play games on their phones. Japan Times reported the initiative targets non-Japanese speakers who may be unfamiliar with store procedures.
