foxnews.comA woman filed a federal lawsuit Friday in Nashville, Tennessee, against a cable news channel and two of its reporters. The complaint accuses the defendants of using anonymous sources to publish false statements about her interactions with federal agents.
The article, published December 5 on the channel’s website, reported that the FBI director had ordered agents to escort one of the woman’s intoxicated friends home after nights of partying in Nashville. The suit states the woman’s attorneys wrote that the reporting created the false impression she was intoxicated and that she does not drink.
The complaint names the cable news channel, reporter Ken Dilanian, and reporter Carol Leonnig as defendants. It alleges the article relied on “sham” anonymous sources and caused damage to the woman’s professional reputation as a country music singer and actor.
The woman seeks a jury trial and more than $75,000 in damages. Her attorneys also represent the FBI director in a separate lawsuit against another publication.
A channel president said the organization stands behind its reporting and does not comment on ongoing legal matters. The channel was formerly part of NBCUniversal and became a unit of Versant Media Group in January.
