Lawsuit Filed Over LAPD Shooting of Dog in Canoga Park

Attorneys for Marie Marseille filed a civil rights lawsuit in federal court against the city of Los Angeles on Thursday. The suit seeks damages and alleges that an LAPD officer used excessive force when he shot and killed her 100-pound Saint Berdoodle, Jameson, on June 13. " from Marseille's apartment and receiving no response.
Two officers arrived to check on her. Body camera footage shows the dog, wearing a New York Knicks T-shirt, barked loudly when Marseille first opened the door. Marseille was asked to secure the dog. When she reopened the door, Jameson pushed past her and moved down the hallway toward an officer with its tail wagging.
The officer fired four shots, killing the dog. Videos of the incident circulated widely and drew public criticism.
A GoFundMe account created for Marseille has raised nearly $250,000. The account was revised to state that the funds will support a planned nonprofit called the Jameson Marseille Foundation focused on animal advocacy and welfare. California incorporation records show no such entity has been created.
An internal police investigation remains ongoing. The mayor asked the president of the Police Commission and the police chief to review department policies on the use of force against dogs.
