Layne Riggs Wins Truck Series Race at Naval Base Coronado After Leaders Wreck

Layne Riggs won his fourth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race of 2026 on Friday at Naval Base Coronado. The 24-year-old driver in the No. 34 Ford for Front Row Motorsports passed Tyler Reif on the final lap after Reif missed the turn 15 chicane.

Kaden Honeycutt and Chandler Smith had been racing for the lead when they wrecked, opening the door for Riggs. Riggs said the incident occurred when the No. 11 hit the wall and bounced into the No. 38.

Riggs had entered the final restart expecting a top-five finish. He said his truck had no rear tires left and that he was cooked. After the crash ahead, he took the win. Riggs said the whole last lap was a blur.

He added that Honeycutt had the better truck at the end of the race. The victory was Riggs' third in the last four races. He also recorded six top-six finishes in the last seven events and five straight top-five finishes.

Riggs won two races as a rookie in 2024 and three more in 2025. After recording only three top-10 finishes in the first six races of 2026, he earned his first win of the season on the street course at St. 28.

Riggs holds a 65-point lead over Honeycutt in the standings. Honeycutt is the only other driver considered in contention for the championship. When asked if he is ready for a NASCAR Cup Series debut, Riggs said he thinks so.

He said he has seen others move up without the same statistical success and feels ready whenever the time is right. Riggs said he is waiting for the phone call from a Cup Series organization.
