koreaherald.comLe Sserafim will release its second studio album, "Pureflow pt. m. Friday. The album draws on Buddhist teachings to present fear as an illusion and encourages listeners to act in the present rather than dwell on anxiety. The group said the new theme reflects a change in perspective after four years in the K-pop industry.
Member Hong Eun-chae stated that acknowledging fear and building the strength to move forward represents a cooler attitude than simply breaking through it.
Yun-jin said the shift aims to offer comfort to listeners who find it difficult to claim they are unafraid. She noted that people may need someone to say it is acceptable to feel fear. Japanese member Sakura recalled that the group initially had no fear at debut because they lacked experience, but fear appeared at key career moments such as deciding which songs to release.
" The lead track "Boompala" samples the global hit "Macarena" over a Latin House beat and references the Heart Sutra to suggest fear is a formless illusion. The album also includes "Celebration," a track released April 24 that was co-written by Huh Yun-jin and Kim Chae-won.
The thematic change also mirrors the group's experiences with public criticism, including reactions to its 2024 Coachella performance. Huh Yun-jin said every team faces hard times and that accepting and facing fear led the members to discover a new side of themselves.
Yun-jin, who is Korean American, said sampling "Macarena" carried personal meaning because she grew up listening to the song in the United States. She added that the track's global recognition allows listeners across generations to connect with it. Following the 2025 release of single "Spaghetti" and three years after its first full-length album "Unforgiven," the group aims to maintain upbeat energy while delivering a more mature message.
Japanese member Kazuha said she hopes audiences find the album fun and engaging on stage. Huh Yun-jin added that she hopes the album brings comfort to listeners and gives them courage to face their own fears.
