Leapmotor and Zeekr set new monthly delivery records in June

Leapmotor and Zeekr both reported record electric-vehicle deliveries in June, according to company data released this week. Leapmotor delivered 93,376 vehicles, a 94.5 percent increase from the same month last year. The company also set a record in May. Zeekr, a premium electric-vehicle unit of Geely Auto, delivered 35,169 vehicles, up 110.6 percent year on year. It also set a record in May.

Market context Domestic electric-vehicle sales in China have been declining amid weak consumer demand for higher-priced goods. Leapmotor sells midsize models priced at roughly half the cost of comparable Tesla vehicles. Tesla has not yet released June delivery figures for China. Its Shanghai factory builds only Model 3 and Model Y vehicles priced above 200,000 yuan.

Industry view Eric Han, a senior manager at Shanghai consultancy Suolei, said the two firms, along with Xpeng, Nio and Xiaomi, are emerging as market leaders this year but represent a small share of the overall industry. "Their technological advancement and fancy new models effectively spurred a sales jump," Han said.
