Iran Fires Ballistic Missiles at Israel; Israel Strikes Hezbollah Targets in Southern Lebanon, Killing at Least 14
Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon on June 8 killed at least 14 people and wounded others, including Red Cross paramedics in Tyre. The strikes followed Iranian ballistic missile attacks on Israel the previous day.
Le MondeIsraeli strikes hit multiple locations in southern Lebanon on Monday, killing at least 14 people, the Lebanese health ministry said. One strike in the city of Tyre killed five people and wounded eight others, four of whom were Red Cross paramedics, according to the ministry. The Israeli military issued an evacuation warning for part of Tyre prior to that strike.
An Agence France-Presse photographer reported seeing flames from a struck car on a coastal road and dust rising at an archaeological area. A dawn strike on Zifta in the Nabatieh district killed seven people, including a Syrian child and a woman. A subsequent strike on Marwanieh killed two people, including a child, and wounded 10, the health ministry stated.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported Israeli raids on more than a dozen southern locations, including Burj al-Shemali near Tyre. The strikes continued after Iran launched ballistic missile attacks on Israel, as detailed in reporting by The War Zone. Israeli forces intercepted three projectiles fired from Lebanon near the border, an AFP correspondent reported.
Hezbollah said it had targeted Israeli troops inside Lebanon but did not claim responsibility for attacks on Israeli territory. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the military would continue operations against Hezbollah. "We categorically reject Iran's threats.
Any Iranian attempt to link Lebanon and Iran and attack Israel will be met with great force, as happened yesterday," Katz said. A Lebanese culture ministry official said bombardment the previous day damaged a UNESCO World Heritage site in Tyre. Iran's missile attack was launched in response to the IDF bombing Beirut on Sunday, according to The War Zone.
