Le Monde reported that Issa Darwiche, the 29-year-old head nurse of the intensive care unit at Secours populaire hospital in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, accepted psychological consultations offered by Doctors Without Borders. He had served on the front lines during the wars in 2024 and 2026.
The most recent conflict between Israel and Hezbollah began on March 2, 2026, and has been largely frozen since June 20.
He remained at his post throughout the fighting because the South is his life, he said. Darwiche recounted the constant sight of blood, the sound of bombardments, people from his village he saw dead, and a patient with a mutilated body who did not survive.
"I need to talk about what I feel, the shocks I've taken. During the war, you're caught up in your duty, you work nonstop. It's afterward that you risk breaking down," he stated.
The Israeli army continued strikes and fire near the historic center of Nabatieh after the June 20 ceasefire, preventing Darwiche from returning home. Doctors Without Borders has provided individual counseling and group therapy sessions to medical staff facing four months of conflict and an ongoing unstable security situation.
