Four-time NBA champion LeBron James, an unrestricted free agent, will not sign with any team for at least another week. Insider Marc Stein reported that the process is expected to extend into Summer League, with four teams still in contention.

LeBron James will not sign with any NBA team for at least another week while he considers his options as an unrestricted free agent. NBA insider Marc Stein stated on or before July 9, 2026, that more people than not expect no resolution this week. “The feeling is that this is going to seep into Summer League and will last until at least next week,” Stein said.
At least 10 NBA teams contacted James' agent Rich Paul about free agency. None of the proposals involved direct meetings with James. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers remain the teams still in contention to sign him.
