President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating fell to 67 percent after remaining at a record high of 69 percent for three consecutive surveys, Yonhap reported Thursday. In a National Barometer Survey conducted from Monday to Wednesday, the negative assessment of Lee inched up 2 percentage points to 23 percent compared with the previous poll conducted two weeks earlier.

Lee's approval rating reached 69 percent in the fourth week of March — the highest level in NBS polls since his inauguration in June last year — and remained at that level for the following two surveys before falling 2 percentage points to 67 percent in the latest poll.

The same survey showed that the ruling Democratic Party is leading the main opposition People Power Party by 28 percentage points in terms of approval ratings ahead of the June 3 local elections. Support for the Democratic Party fell 2 percentage points to 46 percent from the previous survey, while backing for the People Power Party rose 3 percentage points to 18 percent.

On the upcoming June 3 local elections, 54 percent of respondents said voters should support the Democratic Party for stability, while 32 percent said they should back the opposition to keep the government in check.

The survey was conducted by pollsters Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research and Hankook Research on 1,001 people aged 18 and older. President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating is 67 percent according to the latest National Barometer Survey, which also placed the negative assessment at 23 percent.

President Lee Jae-myung spoke during a Cabinet meeting at the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul on May 6, 2026.
