Lego Builds 8.5-Metre FIFA World Cup Trophy Replica for Rockefeller Plaza Display

A giant Lego replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy was placed on display at Rockefeller Plaza in New York on July 7 after construction in the Czech Republic. Brazilian football legend Cafu joined Lego designer Christophe Vietti for the ceremony. Children placed the final bricks on the nearly 8.5-metre structure before Cafu cut the ribbon.

The model consists of more than 1.36 million Lego bricks. It was built in the Czech Republic by a team of 56 builders who spent more than 7,000 hours on the project before the structure was transported to Manhattan. Cafu said football and Lego both bring people together, whether children are playing in the street or building models at home, Euronews reported.
