LG CNS Co. introduced a new platform called PhysicalWorks on May 7 as it outlined its goal of becoming a major partner for companies adopting robots in their operations. The information technology affiliate of South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. presented the platform at a media event held at its research and development center in western Seoul.

PhysicalWorks is designed to handle the data and operation of robots through two main components: PhysicalWorks Forge for managing robot training and PhysicalWorks Baton as a comprehensive control system. "The key in robot adoption lies not in the capabilities of individual robots, but in establishing a system for on-site learning, verification and integrated operations," Hyun Shin-gyoon said at the event.

LG CNS is currently testing the full PhysicalWorks platform with a dozen clients across industries that include electronics, chemicals and logistics, an official said.

The company plans to first apply PhysicalWorks at manufacturing and logistics sites, where substantial operational experience and data already exist. An official from the company said tangible business results are expected within the next two years.

LG CNS stated that it intends to accelerate investments in robotics and is actively seeking merger and acquisition opportunities in the field. The platform's introduction comes as businesses explore broader integration of robots into commercial workflows.
