Liberal Senator Denies Endorsing Podcast Remarks on Migration
Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price rejected claims she supported a podcast host's call to limit migration from specific regions. She said her comments focused on migrants adopting Australian values rather than ethnicity.
Liberal senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price said she did not endorse a podcast host's statements calling for an end to migration from India, China, Africa, and the Middle East. The remarks came during an interview on the 2 Worlds Collide podcast released on Thursday.
In the episode, host Sam Bamford said the government should stop "flooding" Australia with hundreds of thousands of migrants from those regions. A video of the exchange shows Senator Nampijinpa Price nodding and making an affirmative noise after each point.
" She said the reply was not meant to support every point raised.
Minister responded on social media, accusing the Liberal Party of "punching down" and questioning migrants' contributions. Senator Nampijinpa Price rejected that interpretation in a Thursday night statement. She said her views were not about race or ethnicity.
"This is not about racism, this is not about race, this is about our values as a country," she said. She returned to the frontbench in February under the current opposition leader. Opposition figures have criticized current migration levels and proposed tying future intake to housing supply.
