The site sits along the On Your Own Community Road in Lower Harlandsville Township, Grand Bassa County, directly opposite the Government Eye Center Hospital. EPA inspectors documented the location and received complaints from hospital staff before taking action.
Enforcement Action Details EPA Executive Director Dr.
Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo stated that waste disposal sites must not be placed near health facilities. He said the agency had previously engaged local authorities and that the closure is part of a nationwide environmental compliance monitoring exercise covering all fifteen counties.
The director noted that regulations apply equally to private companies and government bodies. He warned that violations of the stop order could lead to penalties or legal action under Liberian environmental laws. The Liberia National Police is supporting EPA teams to ensure compliance.
The agency said it remains committed to protecting public health and enforcing proper waste management practices.
