New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu will not join the team for the opening game of a two-game road trip Monday night in Connecticut as she continues recovery from a back issue. The team has not released detailed information about the injury. Coach Chris DeMarco said in a statement provided to the New York Post on Monday that Ionescu is “progressing well.”

Upcoming schedule The Liberty hold a 7-4 record and are competing in Commissioner’s Cup play. After Monday’s game they are scheduled to play in Atlanta on Thursday. Ionescu’s availability for the Atlanta game has not been determined. DeMarco said the team kept her home so she can continue 5-on-5 work with practice players, which he described as standard before full clearance for game action.
