A Lidl supermarket and a refrigerated storage and logistics facility are set to be built on the remains of Austria's second-largest women's concentration camp. According to the Mauthausen Guides, around 400 women were interned in the camp during World War II, 194 of whom were Russian protective-custody prisoners.
The development will replace the former camp site with commercial retail and logistics infrastructure. No timeline for construction has been announced. The announcement follows standard commercial development procedures for the area.
