Light Phone III Now Available Through Noble Mobile Plan
Light Phone is offering its third model through a two-year contract with Noble Mobile, a network started by Andrew Yang that refunds users for lower data consumption. The arrangement removes the $699 upfront cost and eliminates the previous wait time for the device.
theverge.comLight Phone is making its third model available immediately through a partnership with Noble Mobile, a mobile network started by Andrew Yang. The arrangement requires customers to sign a two-year contract at $50 per month. Under the plan, users receive one dollar back for each gigabyte of data they do not use below a 20 GB monthly threshold.
The refund can be taken as cash or applied toward rewards.
Light co-founder Joe Hollier said the Noble Mobile launch lowers the barrier to entry and marks the first time the Light Phone III has been offered for immediate purchase. Without the contract, the company estimates buyers would wait until September for delivery.
The Light Phone III includes an OLED screen, front- and back-facing cameras, and a physical shutter button. It supports basic calls, texts, directions, and a directory app, but does not include RCS messaging.
Hollier and co-founder Kaiwei Tang met in 2014 at Google’s 30 Weeks incubator. They designed the device as an alternative to full-featured smartphones while retaining limited functionality for modern needs. The founders added the camera after determining it was a necessary tool, but removed features they believed encouraged constant sharing and reactions.
The phone has shipped 20,000 units since its launch last spring.
