Dan Illouz, a departing member of Israel's Likud party in the Knesset, announced his departure from the party this week over the Haredi draft exemption law. @MarioNawfal reported that Illouz told Ynet a significant bloc inside Netanyahu's own party tried to remove the prime minister after October 7.
At least a third of Likud's Knesset faction believed Israel's leadership had to change, according to Illouz.
The attempt failed due to internal power struggles over a successor, Illouz said. He called the Haredi draft exemption law a disgrace while the IDF warns of collapse under the burden. "I simply cannot ask you to vote for a party I can no longer bring myself to vote for.
This is no longer Likud," Illouz stated. Israeli elections are scheduled for October.
