Lille appointed Davide Ancelotti as its new head coach on a two-year contract. The 36-year-old Italian will take up the role after serving as an assistant to his father, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti, at this summer's World Cup. Ancelotti said he was proud and happy to represent the club.
He described Lille as a serious, ambitious and competitive club that regularly plays European football. Lille did not say whether Ancelotti will continue his role with Brazil once he begins work at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. This marks Ancelotti's second managerial position.
5 percent win rate across 33 matches. Botafogo finished sixth in Brazil's top flight during that period and was eliminated from the Copa Libertadores in the round of 16 by Ecuador's LDU Quito. Ancelotti began his coaching career in 2016.
He has worked alongside his father at Napoli, Bayern Munich, Everton and Real Madrid. He replaces Bruno Genesio, whose two-year contract with Lille ended without renewal. Genesio guided the club to fifth place in the 2024-25 season and third place in 2025-26, securing Champions League qualification.
