Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovations completed after refilling begins

Crews began refilling the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on Thursday after several weeks of renovations. Officials stated that the work is complete and credited the resurfacing of the basin in a dark blue color. The project was announced in April. Officials directed that the pool be restored to a condition matching its original 1922 appearance.

Additional site improvements Officials also referenced a planned promenade that would connect the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River. The route would include pedestrian bridges over existing highways. A chart comparing the reflecting pool to other national landmarks was shown to reporters earlier in the week.

Officials removed ten dumpsters of debris from the basin during the work. The renovation is part of broader efforts to update Washington landmarks, including a proposed ballroom at the White House and a triumphal arch.
