Lions release cornerback after felony arrest

The Detroit Lions released cornerback Terrion Arnold after he was arrested on felony charges of armed robbery and kidnapping, the team announced Monday. Arnold, 23, turned himself in Wednesday night and was released from custody Tuesday after posting bond set at $1 million.

A judge imposed conditions that bar contact with six co-defendants and witnesses, require surrender of his passport within 48 hours, and confine him to his Tallahassee residence except for football activities or court appearances.

Authorities say six associates carried out the crimes by holding, beating, and pistol-whipping the victims while Arnold was not present.

Two female co-defendants have pleaded guilty and are cooperating with authorities. Their statements tie Arnold to the crimes, according to prosecutors, who argue he is responsible because he identified the suspected thieves and expressed a desire to confront them.

Arnold's attorney argued in court that prosecutors are "not even close" to showing that Arnold knew or directed what his associates would do. A spokesperson for the state attorney's office said the office remains committed to seeking justice for the three victims.

Prosecutors had sought to hold Arnold without bond and later asked the court to require a GPS tracking device after his release from the team. His attorneys had opposed the device on grounds it would prevent him from playing football.
