The U.S. and Iran announced the deal late Sunday, more than 100 days after the strait closed. The reopening could occur as soon as an agreement is signed on Friday.
News of the deal sent oil prices lower early Monday.
Brent Crude traded at $82 per barrel and WTI Crude fell below $80 per barrel.
Tanker owners and operators have stayed cautious about sending vessels into the area. One LNG tanker completed the transit, carrying cargo to India. The tanker Disha cleared Hormuz and entered the Gulf of Oman, according to ship-tracking data on MarineTraffic. The vessel had loaded LNG from Qatar's Ras Laffan terminal in early March.
