A Metropolitan Police review has identified more than 4,000 potential child sexual exploitation cases across London that may require reopening. The files stem from roughly 12,000 reports received since 2010, with about one in three previously closed without further action.
The cases have been referred to the National Crime Agency under Operation Beaconport for urgent assessment. The review comes after earlier public statements by the London mayor that there was "no indication" of grooming gangs in the capital.
