LONGi Reports 35.5 Percent Efficiency in Silicon-Perovskite Tandem Solar Cell
Chinese firm LONGi reached 35.5 percent conversion efficiency in a crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cell, verified by the European Solar Test Installation. The result follows incremental gains from 33.9 percent in late 2023.

LONGi has advanced its crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell to 35.5 percent efficiency, building on prior milestones of 33.9 percent recorded in November 2023 and 34.6 percent reached by June 2024. Engadget reported the latest result, which the European Solar Test Installation verified.
LONGi states it now holds the world record for efficiency in this specific photovoltaic technology. Commercially available solar cells operate at around 25 percent efficiency, according to the US Energy Information Administration. LONGi said crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells could theoretically reach 43 percent.
The US Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory produced a solar cell with 39.5 percent efficiency in 2022.
