LONGi states it now holds the world record for efficiency in this specific photovoltaic technology. Commercially available solar cells operate at around 25 percent efficiency, according to the US Energy Information Administration. LONGi said crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells could theoretically reach 43 percent.
The US Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory produced a solar cell with 39.5 percent efficiency in 2022.
