Los Angeles Angels Fire General Manager Perry Minasian

The Los Angeles Angels fired general manager Perry Minasian on Friday. The team announced that John Mozeliak, who served as general manager of the St. Louis Cardinals from 2008 to 2025, will join as a consultant.

Mozeliak, 57, will oversee day-to-day baseball operations, refine the department's strategy and assist in the search for a new general manager. He is expected to remain with the organization through the end of the 2026 calendar year. Minasian, 46, was in the final year of his contract after five full seasons plus the partial 2021 campaign.

First-year team president Molly Jolly said in a statement that Minasian had been a valued leader who worked tirelessly over the last six years. The Angels entered Friday at 34-48 and tied for the worst record in the American League. The franchise has posted 11 consecutive losing seasons and never won more than 77 games during Minasian's tenure.

Minasian replaced Billy Eppler after the 2020 season. Since he took over at the start of 2021, the Angels have recorded the sixth-lowest winning percentage in MLB. Mozeliak led the Cardinals to 10 postseason appearances, six division titles, two pennants and the 2011 World Series title during his 18-year run.

He stepped down as president of baseball operations after the 2025 season.
