Clarence A. Frazier Jr. faces federal murder charges after allegedly killing Deputy US Marshal Drew Hanson during a July 13 warrant service in Alexandria. The shooting occurred while officers enforced an arrest warrant tied to a prior sexual battery case.
abcnews.go.comClarence A. , 48, of Alexandria, Louisiana, has been charged with the murder of a federal officer after allegedly killing Deputy US Marshal Drew Hanson during an attempt to serve an arrest warrant, the New York Post reported. The shooting took place on July 13 at Frazier’s residence.
Multiple officers from the US Marshals Service and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office were serving the warrant, which stemmed from a prior sexual battery charge, when Frazier barricaded himself inside and opened fire, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana.
Frazier had failed to appear in state court to face trial on a charge of sexual battery of a person with infirmities, the federal criminal complaint stated. Officers announced their presence, obtained a search warrant, and forced entry into the home.
Frazier then barricaded himself in a bedroom and shot Hanson. After a standoff inside the bedroom, officers took Frazier into custody. Hanson later died from the gunshot wounds sustained in the exchange.
Frazier faces a maximum sentence of life in prison or the death penalty if convicted. “Tragically, the defendant’s alleged actions claimed the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer who was simply doing his duty,” Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement.
