Low Pressure Area East of Philippines May Develop into Tropical Depression
A low pressure area formed outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday and had a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours as of Tuesday afternoon. The system could enter the PAR by Wednesday and bring moderate to heavy rain to several provinces.

A low pressure area formed outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday, July 20. As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, the system was located 1,505 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, Rappler reported.
PAGASA stated the low pressure area has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours. The agency said the system might enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility within 12 to 24 hours, or by Wednesday, July 22. If the system becomes a tropical cyclone inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility or enters as one, it would receive the local name Kiyapo.
That name would mark the Philippines’ 11th tropical cyclone of 2026 and the fourth in July. PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the incoming disturbance could reach tropical storm intensity. In that case the highest possible tropical cyclone wind signal would be Signal No.
2. Estareja added that the system could move toward Northern Luzon on Friday, July 24, or Saturday, July 25. The trough or extension of the low pressure area could bring scattered rain and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas on Tuesday evening.
Mindanao, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, and Palawan experienced scattered rain and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon on Tuesday evening. PAGASA issued a rain outlook at 5 p.m. Tuesday stating moderate to heavy rain of 50 to 100 millimeters is expected in Maguindanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon.
The same outlook listed moderate to heavy rain in Negros Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Sultan Kudarat from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon. PAGASA warned that floods and landslides are possible due to the forecast rain. The agency advised the public to monitor updates regularly because forecasts can still change.
