LSD Therapy Shows Significant Benefit in Major Depression Phase 3 Trial

Definium Therapeutics said Monday that its experimental LSD therapy DT120 produced a statistically significant improvement in patients with major depression during the company's first Phase 3 trial. Six weeks after a single dose, patients who received DT120 recorded a 13.3-point reduction on the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale, compared with a 5.2-point reduction among patients who received placebo.
By 12 weeks the benefit had diminished slightly yet remained largely sustained, with treated patients showing an 11-point drop from baseline versus a 3.6-point drop in the placebo group.
The company described the findings as bringing the drug closer to possible approval. No serious safety signals were disclosed in the initial data release.
Several other companies are conducting late-stage studies of psychedelic compounds for psychiatric conditions. Regulators have not yet issued final guidance on the design of pivotal trials for these medicines.
