CBS SportsLane Kiffin said LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt has returned to full strength after foot surgery last November. Leavitt missed spring practice and the second half of Arizona State's 2025 season before transferring to LSU.
"He's doing well, he's been out there pretty much full strength now," Kiffin said during a recent appearance on the In The Bayou with Tyrann Mathieu podcast. Kiffin added that Leavitt shows a strong arm, processes information quickly, and maintains an NFL-level preparation approach.
Leavitt accumulated more than 3,000 yards of total offense and 29 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman at Arizona State in 2024. He added 15 touchdowns in seven games last fall before the injury.
Kiffin to run his offense, Leavitt ranks as one of college football's highest-paid players and anchors LSU's top-ranked transfer class. The quarterback met with Kiffin and LSU staff in Knoxville, Tennessee, before committing despite a late visit to Miami.
Kiffin said the team aims to play smart, physical football and restore the style that made opponents fear facing LSU. Former coach Ed Orgeron rejoined the staff last month as a special assistant. "To have him back is even better than I thought," Kiffin said.
Orgeron previously worked with Kiffin at USC and Tennessee.
