A magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred at 11:41 p.m. PT on Sunday under the ocean floor west of Vancouver Island. Earthquakes Canada reported no tsunami risk and shaking felt across northern parts of the island and as far as Metro Vancouver.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck under the ocean floor off Vancouver Island at 11:41 p.m. PT on Sunday. Cbc reported that Earthquakes Canada placed the epicentre 219 kilometres southwest of Port Hardy on the island's northern tip.
The quake occurred about 10 kilometres beneath the surface. Earthquakes Canada stated there was no risk of a tsunami. The epicentre lay roughly 300 kilometres from Campbell River and 330 kilometres from Port Alberni.
Shaking was reported in northern Vancouver Island and felt as far southeast as Metro Vancouver, more than 450 kilometres away.
