A magnitude 5 earthquake struck the Saland area of Iran's Khuzestan province at a depth of about 12 kilometers. Khuzestan province governor Seyed Mohammad Reza Mowlaizadeh said no casualties have been reported. He added that all executive bodies remain on alert.
Two rescue teams were dispatched to villages near the epicenter to assess possible damage. Khuzestan province is home to the city of Ahvaz. Iran ranks among the world's most seismically active countries.
